Does Size Matter? Here Are 4 Reasons It Doesnt

You want to eat that last slice of cake, but you can’t afford to gain weight… I’ve been there — obsessed with maintaining a specific weight, but what exactly is the right size? In society, size does matter. In fact, it seems to be the only thing we are preoccupied with. Women are objectified for being anything more than super model small and girls who are very small are criticized for not having any weight. As a woman who doesn’t fit into the standards of society, I am often the object of harsh comments, rude looks and much more. The way I stay on top of my game and ignore the comments is by realizing size doesn’t matter and here’s four reasons why:

You're Beautiful Just The Way You Are.

Bruno Mars said it best “…you’re amazing, just the way you are”. Maybe you’re struggling with your weight. You might weigh a little more than you would like to or a little less and you’re trying to get to your goal weight. Relax; workout, eat, be healthy — it’ll happen in time.  What is most important is loving yourself no matter what your size is. Do you think a few numbers on the scale is going to change the way you feel about yourself? Love the person you are no matter the size. It is your job to be  comfortable and love your body just the way it is, because you are beautiful.

You're Living AHealthy Life

If your body wanted you to be a size zero, then you’d be a size zero. Instead, you’re a certain size with a healthy metabolism and diet because it’s what your body wants for you. A lot of the reasons you are the way you are fall under genetics. Look at your parents, grandparents, great, etc. Plus, the older you get, you realize that outside of genetics there are hormonal issues that also play a part into how you gain and lose weight. For example: I suffer from PCOS and as I got older weight loss and gain became more complicated. Don’t starve yourself because you’re not as thin as you’d like. Don’t force yourself to eat more because you would like to weight more. It is important to eat healthy, listen to your hunger/ fullness cues. eat what you want in moderation, anad stay active. As long as you’re healthy, you can be 100 pounds or 250 pounds; it doesn’t matter.

You're a College Student

I don’t know about you, but living away from home gave me newfound freedom. I know we all think of the stay up as long as you want freedom, but I mean in the sense that I can eat what I want. Raise your hand if you agree, your diet usually consists of pizza, soda and beer — maybe with a healthy meal thrown in on occasion. It’s not like I was thinking about the plate method or healthy foods when I first started college. Give me all the things I couldn’t have at home. College is already stressful enough; you have classes, work, club activities and you barely sleep. Who is going to worry about food?

Speaking of sleep, having a good night’s rest is necessary for a healthy diet. Without much sleep, it’s easier to gain weight, spike your cortisol, stress eat, etc.  Also, keg stands on the weekends, every weekend, is bound to give you a beer belly. If you’re too busy being a college student, you’re bound to gain a little weight. Don’t stress yourself too much, there’s a reason it’s called Freshman 15.

It Is Absolutley Normal To Have Body Fat

Are you ready for some information that is going to absolutely blow your mind? The average person is between the sizes 8 and 12. Those impossible beauty standards as well as the diet culture from our parents days are so over.  So, if you’re ever approached by someone with rude comments about your size, take a moment to take a breather and remember you’re fabulous on the inside and out. I’m beautiful, you’re beautiful, we’re all beautiful, stop letting society dictate your view on size.

So, there you have it, body size doesn’t matter. Take your beautiful, healthy, college student ass off this post and go have a slice of pizza.

This spoke loads to me! I am a college student and I find it very hard to stay healthy and motivated! This semester I am trying to be a lil more of both but it’s great to see that I am not the only one feeling discouraged and “bad” thank you for this! Love your blog, just followed you and would love if you’d check mine out! Thanks.

Hey girl don’t be discouraged, it’s hard to be a college student and to be absolutely fit. My best advice to you is to try cooking and meal preps and see if that works. Try working out between classes or hitting the gym on Sunday’s and lots of water. I’ll be trying some of that this upcoming semester and if it works I’ll definitely post about it. Don’t feel discouraged or bad love your body and remember that you’re beautiful regardless of your size. Thanks for the follow I’ll be sure to check out your blog!
